FORMER TONBRIDGE TEACHER JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE
A former educator from Tonbridge has received a nine-year prison sentence after admitting to multiple child sex crimes, including rape.Kevin Wells, 53, who lives on Bishops Oak Ride, was convicted of 14 charges at Maidstone Crown Court.
He previously served as head of Year Seven at Ravens Wood School in Bromley, when his arrest occurred in February.
It’s important to note that none of the charges pertain to any pupils at the school.
An investigation by police uncovered that digital devices confiscated from his home contained recordings of online abuse.
Detective Sergeant David Shipley of Kent Police’s Public Protection Unit stated: "Wells was in contact with several vulnerable children, engaging in sexual acts for his own gratification.
His misconduct extended beyond online activity, as he met with a young child, resulting in serious sexual offences." The case highlights how online behavior can lead to physical abuse.
Authorities also discovered images and videos of child abuse downloaded by Wells.
He admitted to participating in online sexual activities via webcam, recording the encounters, and traveling to Berkshire to abuse a boy.
After his arrest, Ravens Wood School suspended Wells immediately, which was in line with safeguarding protocols, and he later resigned.
An investigation confirmed he was not involved with the school's students or staff.
Wells has been subject to a 20-year Sex Offences Prevention Order, limiting his access to children and the internet.
