KEVIN TOPLASS JAILED FOR INDECENT ASSAULT OF YOUNG BOY DURING FISHING TRIP
Pervert Kevin Toplass has been jailed for indecently assaulting a child on an all-night fishing trip. The 66-year-old gave the boy an alcopop before sexually touching him when he was asleep in a tent decades ago.
The victim woke up but the offender, who has a prior conviction for sexual assault, continued the abuse.
Toplass, of Trentley Road, pleaded guilty to indecent assault on a boy under 14 on the day of his trial.
The court was told Toplass's previous conviction for sexual assault in 2005 involved similar circumstances.
The sentencing included a 40-month jail term at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, and Toplass will be on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely.
The victim, who did not report the incident at the time, revealed in a statement that he had blocked out the abuse, which made him a very confused young man, and expressed pride at having the courage to come forward.
The judge described the case as more serious than Toplass's previous offence, noting the younger victim and the circumstances.
The court heard that Toplass accepted responsibility but could not remember the specific incident, and was considered rehabilitated after previous efforts with probation.
The judge emphasized that Toplass was convicted of a more serious matter because the victim was younger, and his name will be on the register for life.
