Crawley Child Sexual Abuser
In a significant case that has shocked the local community of Crawley, a man named Kevin Stevens has been handed down a seven-year prison sentence after being found guilty of serious sexual offences involving a young girl. The conviction was announced following a seven-day trial held at Lewes Crown Court, where Stevens, aged 49 and residing on Deerswood Road in Crawley, faced multiple charges related to his inappropriate conduct.

Specifically, Stevens was convicted on two counts of inciting the young girl to engage in sexual activity, as well as two counts of actually engaging in sexual acts with her. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing nature of his actions, which took place over a period of time during which he gained the girl’s trust. The details of the case underscored the calculated manner in which Stevens exploited the girl’s age and vulnerability for his own gratification.

Following his conviction, Stevens was also subjected to a Sexual Offence Prevention Order (SOPO), which will remain in effect until further notice. This order imposes strict restrictions on his access to children, aiming to prevent any future harm. Additionally, Stevens will be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life, a measure that underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.

Detective Constable Danni Flude, who is part of the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigation Unit, commented on the case, stating, “Stevens gained the confidence of the little girl over a period of time and then committed the offences, taking despicable advantage of her age and vulnerability. Fortunately, she eventually disclosed to her family, who immediately reported it to us.”

She further emphasized the importance of the victim’s bravery, noting, “Although now older, she still had to be brave to give evidence against Stevens in court, and this was crucial in helping secure his conviction. It further shows that we will always take such allegations seriously and will try to help victims achieve justice whenever possible.” The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in Crawley and West Sussex to protect vulnerable individuals and bring offenders to justice.
