2014: HELENSBURGH MAN EXPOSED HIMSELF TO HOLIDAY GUESTS
Kevin McDougall, 24, who lives at West King Street, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week after pleading guilty to exposing himself and carrying out a sex act on himself at Inverbeg Holiday Park on the banks of Loch Lomond on July 7 last year.At a sentencing hearing last week, the court was told by McDougall’s defence agent how the former Hermitage Academy pupil had taken part in a 12-hour drinking session for a friend’s birthday prior to committing the offence.
The lawyer stressed this level of drinking was not normal for his client and as a result McDougall’s memory of the incident was ‘very limited’.
The defence agent added that when his client discovered what he had done, he was ‘upset’, ‘shocked’, and ‘at a loss’ to explain his actions.
He also was keen to point out McDougall had shown empathy for those who had witnessed his actions and understood it must have been an unpleasant experience for them while they were trying to enjoy their holiday.
The defence agent said the whole process had left McDougall deeply distressed and had been a ‘shock to the system’.
He said he believed there was not ‘any danger these matters would be repeated’ – a conclusion shared by the Criminal Justice Social Work report.
In addition, McDougall’s defence agent pointed out his client had held down the same job for the past seven years, and told the court there was scope for his client to carry out a Community Payback Order as opposed to paying a fine.
Sherriff Cameron sentenced McDougall to 80 hours unpaid work, to be completed within six months.
