In a case that has shocked the local communities of Crosby and Fleetwood, Kevin Holmes, aged 28, was convicted of a heinous crime involving the abduction and sexual assault of a young girl. The incident took place in Fleetwood, Lancashire, and the repercussions have been felt deeply across the region.

On the afternoon of May 9 last year, the young girl, just 10 years old, was walking to a nearby sweet shop after her mother handed her a pound to buy some treats. As she crossed the street, she encountered Holmes, who was standing next to the open trunk of his Vauxhall Astra. According to prosecutors, Holmes approached her and asked for help, which she wisely refused. However, as she attempted to walk away, Holmes unexpectedly grabbed her and forcibly manhandled her into the trunk of his vehicle.

Once inside the dark confines of the car's boot, the girl was subjected to a terrifying ordeal. Holmes drove her to a secluded area of wasteland near an equestrian center on Rossall Lane, where he proceeded to sexually assault her. The court heard that Holmes then acted indecently in front of her before threatening to drown her in a pond if she made any noise or tried to escape. The girl, displaying remarkable courage, managed to break free and sought help from a passing pedestrian, raising the alarm and bringing the incident to the attention of authorities.

Following the assault, Holmes drove directly from the scene in Fleetwood to pick up his three-year-old son for a planned holiday in Yorkshire. He appeared to be acting normally, even engaging in light-hearted interactions with his family members at his ex-partner’s house, where he arrived shortly after the attack.
