KEVIN DOYLE OF BESSBROOK IN NEWRY CONVICTED OF CRUELTY TO DOG

Kevin Doyle, born on July 31, 1991, and residing at Carrick Vista in Bessbrook, Newry, was found guilty of severe animal cruelty in his absence.

The case against Doyle was initiated by the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council after a disturbing complaint was received in March 2018 concerning the treatment of a dog kept at his property.

According to reports, Doyle failed to appear in court for the third time, despite multiple summonses, and was ultimately convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to the animal.

The charges included neglecting the basic welfare needs of the dog and failing to take reasonable steps to ensure her well-being.

The investigation was triggered by a report from a concerned member of the public.

An Animal Welfare Officer visited Doyle’s residence on March 28, 2018, and made a distressing discovery.

Inside a room, the officer found the dog confined in a corner, surrounded by a large accumulation of faeces and household rubbish, creating an unsanitary and hazardous environment.

The dog was visibly emaciated, with her ribs and hip bones prominently protruding, indicating severe malnutrition and neglect.

Recognizing the animal’s suffering, a veterinary surgeon was called to examine her at the scene.

The veterinarian confirmed that the dog was in a state of suffering due to the neglect she had endured.

Following the assessment, the Animal Welfare Officer took custody of the dog, ensuring her removal from the deplorable conditions.

The dog was subsequently treated and has since recovered fully.

She has been rehomed into a caring environment where her needs are now properly met.

In sentencing, Doyle was fined £250 for each of the charges brought against him.

Additionally, he received a five-year disqualification order from owning or keeping animals, which was set to expire in June 2024.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about animal cruelty and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable animals in the community.
