EX POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR STALKING 20-YEAR-OLD
A former Devon and Cornwall Police officer has been sentenced to four months in jail for stalking a 20-year-old woman and accessing a police database for non-policing purposes.Kevin Davis, aged 41, of Seafield Road, Seaton, Devon, was sentenced at Exeter Magistrates' Court.
The court heard that Davis, who was no longer a police constable at the time, engaged in unwanted communication with the victim through social media messages before eventually approaching her at a gym they both attended, which made her feel vulnerable and unsafe.
It was revealed that Davis had viewed the young woman's social media accounts 100 times.
District Judge Stuart Smith described the offences as 'very serious' against a 'very vulnerable young lady' and stated that Davis had 'seriously undermined the trust' placed in police.
He underscored that only a jail sentence would preserve public trust, which would be significantly affected otherwise.
DI Vicky Lewandowski from the Devon and Cornwall Police's Professional Standards Department commented that Davis was suspended from duty in June following a 'serious report' against him and acknowledged the victim's bravery and resilience throughout the judicial process.
The case highlights issues of misconduct and abuse of police authority.
