2000: JAILED FOR INDECENT ASSAULT ON COLLECTOR
A young man studying to become an electrician received a three-month jail sentence after he was convicted of molesting a female collector on two separate occasions at his home.Court proceedings at Worcester Crown Court revealed that Kevin Davies, aged 30 and from Leasown, Burghill, first exposed himself during the initial incident and told the victim, "I'm a bit of a perv." Three months later, during a subsequent visit, he seized her wrists and attempted to persuade her to touch him.
Judge John Cavell expressed disbelief, saying, "What on earth possessed you, one cannot imagine," as he sentenced Davies.
The jury found him guilty of two counts of indecent assault, and a pre-sentence report was requested.
Prosecutor Brett Stevenson described how the upset woman, acting as a company agent, initially told Davies to cease when he grabbed her wrists and tried to make her touch his private parts.
She then left the scene, but during another visit, Davies—who was about to marry—again assaulted her outside his house.
The woman begged him to stop, and a struggle broke out.
She concealed her distress and managed to walk away, but left the scene in tears.
Defence attorney Miss Monica Pirotta said Davies had no prior criminal record and maintained his innocence, denying any sexual misconduct despite the jury's decision.
She pointed out that Davies was a dedicated worker who risked losing his employment if jailed.
She also characterized the offense as less severe and noted the victim had handled the situation well.
Nonetheless, Judge Cavell highlighted her vulnerability and the emotional impact of the assault, stating, "These were deliberate sexual assaults where the defendant was forcing his attentions on her."
