MERSEYSIDE MAN CONVICTED OF BRUTAL PARTNER MURDER IN LEASOWE
At Liverpool Crown Court, Kevin Ashton, aged 45, was convicted of murdering his partner, Helen Joy, who was 54 years old.The court heard that on 31 January, Ashton committed the crime at their flat on Twickenham Drive in Leasowe, Wirral.
Her body was found the next day, with a post-mortem examination revealing she had succumbed to multiple injuries alongside extreme hypothermia.
The police described the injuries as horrific and inflicted prior to her death.
Helen’s children reported that they had witnessed her being subjected to abuse, manipulation, and psychological control over several years by Ashton.
Her daughter, Caisey Hyland, 21, explained how she noticed her mother’s life changing rapidly, with increased fear and altered behavior, noting, “Life before Kevin Ashton was perfect.
It was within a few months that I began to see changes—her lifestyle, her attitude towards us, and how much she was drinking.” She described frequent abuse that was unprovoked, and how this had frightened her mother and impacted her.
Her brother, Jack Tempest, aged 26, shared that he was heartbroken and that the family was torn apart because of the tragedy.
Authorities responded by boosting their domestic abuse team’s activities and encouraged witnesses and neighbors to report any signs of abuse.
Ashton was convicted of her murder on Thursday and is due to be sentenced on 12 November.
