EXETER CARER JAILED FOR BLACKMAIL AND SHARING INTIMATE PHOTOS
A cheating carer wreaked havoc by having an affair and then blackmailing the woman when it ended.Kenechukwu Oduah threatened to send his victim's partner intimate photos unless she paid him thousands of pounds.
When she agreed to pay up he sent the photos anyway.
Oduah, from Starcross, has been jailed for two years for blackmail and sharing intimate photos.
The judge said he had planned to cause maximum distress to his victim.
Judge James Patrick said Exeter Crown Court was not a court of morals and lots of people have affairs.
But Oduah's behaviour caused massive suffering to the victim and prison was the only option.
Prosecutor Evie Dean said the pair embarked on a relationship which lasted several months.
When it came to an end Oduah reacted badly and said she owed him £1,250.
She initially thought his threats were a bluff because she had not agreed to any photos.
When he provided proof she felt she had no choice but to send him the money.
Oduah initially sent it back saying he was sorry but then changed his mind and said he wanted double the amount.
His threatening messages included: "You don't want to know my network and what I have up my sleeve." He also said: "Do you want to make it messy?" she told how she gave him £2,500 but Oduah then sent over 60 photos to her partner, which he had taken without her permission.
In a statement the woman, who cannot be named, said she suffered severe anxiety as a result of Oduah's cruel crimes.
The defendant, of Parkers Road, made no comment to police when he was arrested but pleaded guilty at court.
Emily Cook, mitigating, said he is very sorry and won't do it again.
She said he is a hard working family man who had resigned his job as a carer but hoped to do it again in the future.
She said he could be given a community order and the probation service put him at a low risk of reoffending.
Judge Patrick said it was a tragedy to have to deal with a man of previous good character who had contributed to society but the offences were too serious for anything other that prison.
