Corwen Child Sexual Abuser
In August 2009, a disturbing case emerged involving Keith Morris, a resident of Edeyrnion Terrace, Corwen, who was found to possess indecent images of young children on his mobile phone. The incident unfolded at the Greenacres Holiday Park located near Morfa Bychan, close to Porthmadog, where Morris was staying at the time.

The discovery was accidental and occurred after Morris lost his mobile phone during his stay at the holiday park. A gardener working at the site found the device and, in an attempt to identify its owner, examined its contents. His curiosity led to the unsettling discovery of photographs depicting children in explicit and indecent situations. Recognizing the seriousness of the material, the gardener promptly contacted the park management, who then alerted the police authorities.

Following the report, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough examination of the phone. Their investigation revealed nine images of concern, along with messages sent by Morris. These messages included communications involving young males and females, with some images of children aged 13 and under. The evidence indicated that Morris had been involved in exchanging such material, although he claimed he did not request the images.

In January, Morris was arrested and taken in for questioning. During his interview, he admitted to being at the holiday park in July and explained that he had been involved in a dating agency through Sky television. He stated that he had sent text messages to various individuals, some of whom responded with photographs. Morris claimed he did not ask for the explicit images but acknowledged that he had sent a message requesting photos of young girls. He expressed no clear recollection of requesting such images but accepted that the message was on his phone.

Keith Morris, aged 57, faced six charges of possessing indecent images of children. Despite the gravity of the charges, he had no prior convictions, although he had previously received a police caution for sexual activity in a public lavatory. During the court proceedings at Caernarfon Crown Court, his defense highlighted that the number of images was small and emphasized that there was no evidence to suggest he had shared or shown the images to others.

The prosecution argued that the images and messages indicated a concerning pattern of behavior. However, the judge, Merfyn Hughes QC, decided against imposing a custodial sentence. Instead, he ordered Morris to be supervised by probation officers for the next three years. The judge remarked that any jail time would be short and that Morris would be free to continue his life afterward. He emphasized the importance of confronting the underlying issues that led to this behavior and preventing any escalation.

As part of the court's ruling, Morris was also required to register as a sex offender before leaving the court building. The case drew attention to the ongoing issues surrounding the possession and exchange of child exploitation material, highlighting the importance of vigilance and swift law enforcement response in such cases.
