FAMOUS DEVON BONGO BUSKER CONVICTED OF VICIOUSLY ATTACKING WOMAN IN STREET
Devon’s well-known street performer Kebba Sarge, the bongo-beating busker recognised across Exeter’s Gandy Street, has been convicted in court after assaulting a woman at Plymouth Railway Station.Sarge, 55, who once drew crowds with his thunderous street drumming and lively performances, admitted assaulting a female by beating during the incident on 17 July 2025.
He appeared before magistrates and entered a guilty plea, bringing a dramatic downfall to a man once treated like a local celebrity.
The court handed him a six-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £50 in compensation to the victim.
Residents who remember him as the ever-smiling entertainer say they’re stunned by the news.
“He was always there on his drums — you never expect something like this,” one Exeter shopper said.
“It’s really shaken people.” Sarge had previously gained public sympathy after speaking out about homelessness and the threat of losing his accommodation pods over winter.
But this new conviction has cast a dark shadow over the former street favourite, who has now gone from Exeter icon to convicted offender.
For the next six months, the once-famed busker must keep out of trouble — or face harsher punishment if he offends again.
