KAMERON MAY SEX OFFENDER FROM WICKHAM MARKET SENTENCED TO 5 YEARS IN PRISON

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Wickham Market, Kameron May, a 20-year-old man, was formally sentenced to a five-year prison term after pleading guilty to a series of serious charges involving the exploitation of minors. The offences, which spanned over multiple incidents, included a total of 12 counts related to sexual misconduct with children, grooming a young girl, and possessing indecent images of minors.

May appeared before Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, June 17, where he admitted to all charges brought against him. The allegations involved eight girls aged between 12 and 15, with the charges comprising six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, four counts of inciting or causing a child to engage in sexual acts, one count of sexual grooming, and possession of over 1,000 indecent images of children. The court heard that May’s collection of images was extensive, highlighting the severity of his actions.

Following his conviction, May was sentenced to five years in prison. Additionally, he received an extended licence period of 36 months, which means he will be under supervision for an extended period after his release. As part of his sentence, he will be registered on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

It was revealed that May had previously been subject to a sexual harm prevention order issued in April 2015, which prohibited him from accessing the internet without maintaining a detailed history of his online activity. This order also mandated that he make this history available to police upon request. Despite this, investigations uncovered further misconduct.

In July 2015, police received an initial report through the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, prompting a joint investigation into May’s activities. During this period, authorities suspected that May was involved in sexual activity with a girl under 16. He was arrested on suspicion of such activity, interviewed, and released on bail until August 10, as the victim was initially reluctant to speak to police.

Meanwhile, concerns from the guardian of another 13-year-old girl led to further scrutiny. The guardian confronted May, warning him to leave the young girl alone, which added to suspicions about his intentions. Later that month, May was re-arrested on suspicion of grooming and breaching his sexual harm prevention order. He was charged accordingly and appeared in court to face these allegations.

During his arrest, May handed over his phone to police. However, officers suspected he was hiding another device, leading to searches at his residence. They discovered a second phone, which contained a contact list of 275 entries. Of these, 140 contacts were associated with female names, 26 with family or male friends, and 109 were recent calls from unsaved numbers. The authorities did not initially know the ages of these contacts.

Further examination of the device revealed the presence of indecent images, leading to additional charges against May for possession of such material. The investigation uncovered a disturbing pattern of behavior and a significant collection of illicit images.

A family member of one of May’s victims spoke emotionally about the impact of his actions. They described a year-long ordeal marked by emotional distress, sleepless nights, and feelings of helplessness. The family member recounted how May exploited the vulnerability of a young girl, who was described as very young and impressionable when she met him. They expressed deep concern over how May’s influence changed her demeanor and sense of security, replacing the nurturing care she had received from her family with a sense of dependency and control. The family emphasized that the road to recovery for the young girl would be long and challenging, underscoring the profound and lasting damage caused by May’s offending.
