CLERIC'S SON ARRESTED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF UNDERAGE GIRLS IN PHNOM PENH
Kamarutin Suhaimi, aged 33, the son of prominent Islamic cleric Sos Kamry, was arrested yesterday by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Unit of the Ministry of Interior.
He has been accused of sexually abusing four underage girls at a school dormitory in Russei Keo district.
The suspect, who managed a female student dormitory at the Madrasan An-Niman Al-Islamiyan Al-Thanaiya, was detained following his arrest on Tuesday afternoon based on a court-issued warrant.
Investigations revealed that he had sexually assaulted at least four underage Cham girls, aged 10, 13, 14, and 15, within the school premises.
Witnesses and victims provided testimonies confirming the assaults, leading to his charge with two counts of 'rape with aggravating circumstances and sexual assault with aggravating circumstances' under Articles 246 and 247 of the Criminal Code.
If convicted, he faces a jail sentence ranging from seven to fifteen years.
The case remains under scrutiny as court prosecutors continue questioning the suspect.
