Peterborough Greenhithe Sexual Abuser
In August 2022, a disturbing case of animal neglect came to light involving Joshua Exall, a man originally from Peterborough who later resided on Knockhall Road in Greenhithe. Exall appeared before the court to face charges related to the severe mistreatment of a female Staffordshire Bull type dog named Shadow.

The court heard that Exall had abandoned Shadow in an empty property located in Peterborough, where he had previously lived before relocating to Kent. For at least two weeks, the dog was left without access to food or water, confined in a neglected environment. Despite claiming to friends that arrangements had been made for someone to visit and care for Shadow—feeding and exercising her—these assertions proved to be false.

Concerned neighbors, disturbed by persistent barking and whining, alerted authorities to Shadow’s plight. Responding swiftly, police and RSPCA officers rescued the dog, discovering her in a dire state. Shadow was found to be emaciated, with her body described as “skin and bone,” suffering from severe fur loss and malnutrition. Her condition underscored the extent of her suffering during her time of neglect.

Fortunately, Shadow survived her ordeal and is now under the care of the RSPCA. The organization has indicated that she will be available for rehoming once she has fully recovered from her physical and emotional trauma.

Joshua Exall, aged 25, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to Shadow. The court sentenced him to a community order, which includes 180 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £95 and costs amounting to £400. As part of the sentence, Exall was disqualified from keeping animals for a period of ten years, reflecting the severity of his neglect and the court’s stance on animal cruelty.
