Lytham Rapist
In September 2017, a young woman, whose identity is protected by law, publicly shared her emotional response following the sentencing of Joshua England for serious sexual offenses. The victim, who was only 14 years old at the time of the assault, described her ordeal and the pain caused by the court process. She recounted having to testify three times in court—once to give evidence, and twice more after hearings involving both the prosecution and defense—after England denied the rape allegation.

The girl, who met England through mutual friends and had known him for just one day before the incident, expressed her outrage: “I’m disgusted by him. People need to know what he has done so he doesn’t do to anybody else what he did to me.” She also revealed that the court case coincided with her exams, making the entire experience even more stressful.

Her mother commented, “No sentence could ever be enough for what he did to my daughter. This has been ongoing for two years and it’s been pretty devastating. Three separate times my daughter was put up on the stand, and that’s a terrible thing for a young girl. Even the judge thought it was disgusting.” The mother noted that her daughter was questioned multiple times prior to her final testimony and praised her resilience, saying, “She’s been very, very strong. I think we can now move on with our lives.”

The victim added, “I can just try to move on. I’m not going to let it ruin my life, but it’s always going to be there.”

At the sentencing hearing at Preston Crown Court, 19-year-old Joshua England, of Saltcotes Place, Lytham, was sentenced to six years and six months in a young offenders’ institute. He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register and was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
