The jailing of a Widnes rapist has been welcomed by police in what they say was an âappalling and horrificâ case.
Joshua Chesters, aged 35 of Cronton Road in Cronton, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of two offences, one of which was rape.
The incident involved Chesters raping a woman at an address in Cronton earlier this year.
The victim sustained multiple injuries and reported the incident to Merseyside Police after leaving the property the following day.
Chesters was subsequently arrested, charged, and later convicted following a crown court trial.
As part of his sentence, he was given a 12-year restraining order to protect the victim and must register as a sex offender for life.
Police officer DC Tomas Bath from Merseyside Police expressed support for the sentence, stating: 'This was an appalling case of sexual violence, and I hope this sentencing brings the victim some comfort.
Despite this womanâs horrific experience, she bravely contacted the police to report what had happened.
I hope that this sentencing helps others to come forward, and that it shows what will happen to their perpetrators.'
