MAN GIVEN SUSPENDED JAIL TERM FOR COLLECTING THOUSANDS OF INDECENT IMAGES
Josh Stratford, a 24-year-old from Streetly, was identified after authorities acted on intelligence indicating he had shared photographs via the online file-sharing platform Dropbox.A court hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court revealed that a search of his home uncovered a total of 158 images classified as Category A, the most severe type; 266 images of Category B, and 758 images categorised as C, all stored on his electronic devices.
Among these images were those featuring a girl as young as four years old.
Prosecutor Miss Amanda O'Mara stated that the defendant did not surrender passwords for four other devices and chose not to speak during police interviews, instead making no comment.
It was estimated that he had accessed around 141,000 additional indecent images through the dark web and private networks over a period of four years.
The defendant, a veterinary student residing on Inglewood Grove in Streetly, Walsall, pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent photographs last year, on May 18.
Defense lawyer Mr Callum Church admitted the offense was "thoroughly unacceptable" and lacking any justification or explanation.
He pointed out that Stratford had since undertaken courses with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, a charity focused on child protection.
The judge, Recorder Abigail Nixon, described Stratford's behavior as "perverted" and emphasized the serious impact it would have on his life moving forward.
She warned that this conduct would influence his future prospects.
She handed down a sentence of eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.
Stratford is also required to complete 100 hours of unpaid community work, participate in up to 35 sessions aimed at mental health issues, and pay costs of £425 within three months.
He was also issued a sexual harm prevention order and will be registered as a sex offender for ten years.
