DISS MAN SENTENCED FOR HARASSMENT AND DEATH THREATS AGAINST EX-PARTNER
A 36-year-old man named Joseph Boon from Scole Road in Brockdish, near Diss, has been given a suspended jail sentence for a campaign of harassment against his former partner, which included making death threats.
The Norwich Magistrates' Court heard that Boon took the end of an eight-year relationship badly and started to bombard his ex with unwanted messages, phone calls, and social media posts.
He also made threats to harm her new partner, including threats to burn down his house.
The court was informed that Boon posted on social media: “If I can’t have you, I'll go crazy,” along with other disturbing messages like “I’ll kill him,” “I’ll slit his throat,” and “he’ll get what’s coming to him.” His ex told police she believed Boon was watching her house based on some of the posts.
Boon pleaded guilty to harassment from January 21 to February 1 of that year.
The court sentenced him to six weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with 15 rehabilitation days and 80 hours of unpaid work, and imposed a two-year restraining order.
The mitigating lawyer stated that Boon admitted to making some very stupid comments.
