On the afternoon of October 15, 2021, a disturbing incident unfolded in Rotherham that has left the local community deeply shaken. Josef Darnia, a Polish national born on May 18, 1984, and residing at 185 Broom Valley Road, Moorgate, was involved in a heinous act that drew significant police attention and public outrage.

According to reports, Darnia engaged in what he claimed was a 'religious ritual' when he slit the throat of his pet dog, a small chihuahua named Lilly. Witnesses who observed the aftermath described seeing Darnia in his garden, holding a bloodied bag, which was later linked to the dog's tragic death. Police officers responded promptly to the scene and discovered Lilly's lifeless body concealed behind a bush in the vicinity of Darnia's property. The murder weapon, a knife used in the killing, was recovered from inside his house.

In the wake of this brutal act, authorities also seized Darnia's two other dogs, citing concerns for their safety and well-being. The incident shocked neighbors and animal lovers alike, highlighting the severity of the crime committed.

Darnia, who has connections to Shepperton in Surrey, was subsequently brought before the courts. He was sentenced to a two-year community order, which includes 25 days of rehabilitation and 90 days of alcohol abstinence. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £95 in costs and was handed a five-year ban from owning or keeping animals. The court's decision reflects the gravity of the offense and aims to prevent any future harm.

This tragic event has sparked widespread condemnation and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the need for strict enforcement of laws protecting pets from cruelty.
