JORDON SPENCER FROM MATLOCK BATH SENTENCED IN DERBY FOR SEX WITH 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Matlock Bath, Derby Crown Court sentenced Jordon Spencer, a 19-year-old man from Dale Road, Matlock Bath, to a significant prison term following his conviction for engaging in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16. The court proceedings, held on a Friday, revealed disturbing details about Spencer's actions and the subsequent legal consequences he faced.

Judge Stuart Rafferty QC did not hold back in issuing a stern warning to Spencer during the sentencing. He emphasized that Spencer would be viewed as a 'nonce' within the prison system, a term used to describe individuals convicted of sexual offenses against minors. The judge's words underscored the societal and institutional disdain for such crimes and served as a stark reminder of the consequences awaiting Spencer behind bars.

The court heard that Spencer had previously been subjected to a community order, which included supervision, after being charged with abduction. This earlier charge stemmed from an incident in May of the previous year, when Spencer met the same underage girl—whose identity remains protected for legal reasons—at a park bench. Despite this intervention, Spencer continued to pursue a relationship with her, maintaining contact even after the initial legal warning. Evidence presented in court indicated that he reached out to her again on August 13, the day she was reported missing.

Police responded swiftly to her disappearance, visiting Spencer’s residence. During the investigation, officers discovered the girl inside his home, along with two other individuals. It was noted that she appeared intoxicated, and concerns grew about Spencer’s intentions and the potential for further harm. In police interviews, Spencer claimed that he had done nothing wrong, asserting that he was in love with the girl and that nothing would stop their relationship. However, he later admitted to having full vaginal intercourse with her and confirmed that they did not use any form of contraception.

Further details revealed that the group had been drinking alcohol—lager and vodka—and had also been using cannabis at the time. The prosecution, led by Sarah Slater, painted a troubling picture of the events, highlighting the reckless and illegal nature of Spencer’s actions. The defense, represented by Sarah Brown, acknowledged that Spencer was aware he faced a custodial sentence and suggested that his desire to see the girl had overridden his better judgment. She expressed that Spencer regretted his behavior and claimed that he and the girl had ended their relationship.

In her sentencing remarks, Judge Rafferty questioned Spencer’s claims of love, asking how he had treated the girl and warning of the potential consequences had she become pregnant. The judge described Spencer’s conduct as despicable, whether he was sober or intoxicated, and warned him that his life inside prison would be markedly more difficult due to his status as a registered sex offender. The judge’s words served as a stark reminder of the societal stigma and the harsh realities of prison life for those convicted of such offenses.

Ultimately, Spencer was sentenced to a total of 15 months in prison—12 months for the sexual activity with a minor and an additional three months for child abduction. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Matlock Bath, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the legal system’s commitment to protecting vulnerable minors from predatory behavior.
