ABERDEEN MAN DETAINED INDEFINITELY AFTER KILLING MOTHER
Jordan Milne, aged 27, was involved in a serious domestic homicide in Aberdeen, where he fatally stabbed his mother, Carol Milne, 33 times. The incident took place in July 2019 within their family residence.
His mother was discovered by her husband Norman, who was battling a terminal brain tumour and later died.
Milne, who has a diagnosis of schizophrenia, was initially charged with murder but admitted to culpable homicide on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
The High Court in Edinburgh, presided over by Lord Burns, ordered his detention in a high security mental health facility without a set time limit, citing the need for ongoing psychiatric treatment and supervision.
During the proceedings, it was revealed that Mrs.
Milne had previously expressed concerns for her safety due to her son's aggressive tendencies and persistent financial demands.
Police efforts to defuse the situation, such as permitting him to stay if he ceased loud music and helped with chores, were unsuccessful as the tragedy occurred.
A forensic psychiatrist testified that Milne’s mental health condition necessitated continual medication and supervision to prevent further harm.
The court acknowledged that his schizophrenia played a role in the incident, and his treatment would continue at a state hospital under indefinite restrictions.
The family expressed profound grief over the loss of Mrs.
Milne, with her son Curtis sharing the pain they endure daily, particularly following his father's death after his mother's murder.
The case was described as tragic, with Milne showing remorse, and the judge underscored the importance of long-term care and restrictions for Milne’s safety and that of others.
