COXHOE RAPIST GOT THRILL FROM VIOLENCE HE INFLICTED ON VICTIM
This is the face of a vile rapist who seemed to get a thrill from the violence he inflicted upon his victim.Jordan James forced himself upon the woman, raped and strangled her, spat in her face, bit and punched her, Durham Crown Court heard.
The woman felt stripped of her dignity by the 25-year-old, but as he was jailed for nine years, she said had developed a new-found a strength and determination, adding: “My survival is not just for me but for every woman who has been a victim.” She delivered a powerful victim impact statement telling the court she felt James, of The Grove in Coxhoe, would take “satisfaction” hearing how much pain his actions had brought her.
She said it was a second statement she had drawn up as she felt she “held back” her true feelings in the first draft.
“I felt uncomfortable after how much he (James) had hurt me," she said.
The victim said he had forced himself upon her, raped and strangled her, spat in her face, bit and punched her.
She said he degraded her and, “stripped me of my dignity.” Jordan James received a nine-year prison sentence after being found guilty at trial of rape and other sexual offences, plus violence (Image: Durham Police).
Since reporting him to police she said she had moved home and changed jobs as she felt unsafe after his offending.
She also said she had taken anti-depressants and required the intervention of a mental health crisis team.
She said he appeared to have shown a lack of remorse for his behaviour and felt he still treated it as, “a game to be won.” James was convicted of rape plus other sexual and violence offences after a week-long trial at Durham Crown Court in September.
Jurors at his trial convicted him of rape, sexual assault, two counts of intentional strangulation, and assault causing actual bodily harm.
He returned to the court to be sentenced on Friday (November 14).
It finally brought justice for the complainant who said she had to endure numerous delays in proceedings since she reported Jordan John James’ abuse to police.
His barrister Mark Styles said his client was of previous good character had a difficult upbringing, and has limitations caused by PTSD.
Judge Andrew Smith said he took into account the defendant’s “traumatic past” and would make a minor adjustment to the sentence he would pass.
But he said James seemed to have enjoyed causing the victim physical harm, “getting off in a sexual way over the violence you were using”.
Judge Smith said, in particular, the strangulation incidents must have been “utterly terrifying”.
But he said the real harm wasn’t physical, it was the “psychological effect” it caused the victim, as he “emotionally terrorised” her.
He received a nine year jail term plus a two-year extended licence period.
He can only be considered for release by the Parole Board after two-thirds (six years) of his sentence, but he may have to serve the full nine years behind bars.
James will also have to register as a sex offender, and be placed under restrictions under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, both “without limit of time”.
A restraining order forbids him from contacting, approaching or making social media reference to his victim, also, “without limit of time”.
The judge also apologised to the complainant on behalf of the criminal justice system for the delays in the case being heard.
He said professionals in the system were embarrassed about the situation and would strive to do everything possible to improve on that position.
