DEVON RAPIST JORDAN HEWITT JAILED AFTER MANIPULATIVE DECEPTION
A rapist has been sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison after repeatedly changing his story during the investigation.Jordan Hewitt, aged 33 and from Thorverton, was found guilty by a jury of rape at Exeter Crown Court.
The case stemmed from an incident in May 2022, where he met a woman during a night out in Tiverton.
Hewitt approached her via Facebook and offered her a place to stay.
She accepted and went to meet him, later going to his brother's house to avoid waking her mother.
While fully clothed and asleep, the victim was awoken by Hewitt raping her.
She immediately called her mother to pick her up and later messaged Hewitt asking, "why did you do that to me?" Hewitt ignored her question and tried to continue contact, but she blocked him.
Three weeks later, Hewitt was secretly recorded by a friend of the victim, in which he admitted to penetrating her and claimed he stopped when she shoved him off.
During this interaction, Hewitt attempted to excuse his actions by suggesting the victim "met me for a bit of fun" and threatened that she would "beaten up" if she took the case to court.
Hewitt’s police interview revealed he initially claimed the victim initiated the sexual activity and denied making any threats.
However, faced with evidence including the secret recording, Hewitt’s story changed multiple times — first admitting the assault, then claiming he did not mean the threats, and later saying he was "too drunk" to remember.
During the court case, Hewitt maintained that he did not rape the victim, citing the "awkward" positioning of their bodies.
Hewitt was sentenced on Friday, July 25, to seven-and-a-half years imprisonment.
Detective Constable Andrew Stacey from Exeter CID stated, "We welcome the sentence handed down by the court, which would not have been possible without the courage and continued support of the victim throughout the investigation." He also praised the witness who covertly recorded Hewitt’s account, calling him "a crucial role in exposing his ongoing deception." The officer highlighted Hewitt's manipulative behavior and dishonesty, emphasizing the importance of the victim’s bravery in delivering justice.
The court's decision aims to send a clear message against sexual violence and manipulation.
