JORDAN CARRIE FROM REDNAL ACCUSED OF SHAKING INFANT AND CAUSING BRAIN DAMAGE

Jordan Carrie, a 28-year-old man from Rednal, has been brought to court on serious allegations of inflicting severe injuries on his infant son through violent shaking. The incident reportedly took place in June 2020 at the home of Keeleigh Watts, 23, who is the mother of the child and Carrie's girlfriend. The court proceedings have revealed distressing details about the nature of the injuries sustained by the baby, which include extensive bleeding across the surface of the brain, bleeding within the brain's internal spaces, blood present in the child's eyes, and bleeding around the spinal column. Medical experts involved in the case have confirmed that these injuries are consistent with trauma caused by shaking, an act often associated with inflicted head injuries in infants.

Prosecutor Jennifer Knight KC outlined that the baby was initially healthy and developing normally until June 13, 2020. On that day, the infant suddenly fell seriously ill, exhibiting symptoms such as difficulty breathing, pallor, and a floppy demeanor. An ambulance was promptly called, and the child was transported to Birmingham Children's Hospital. An MRI scan conducted there verified the injuries, which the medical team attributed to deliberate shaking. Evidence presented in court suggests that Carrie was responsible for causing these injuries through violent handling of the infant.

During the trial, Watts, the child's mother, provided testimony indicating her awareness of her partner's aggressive tendencies. She expressed her support for her daughter but also voiced concerns about Carrie's behavior, which she believed was 'heavy-handed.' Watts recounted specific incidents where Carrie failed to support the baby's head properly, slapped him forcefully while winding him, and even forcefully moved the child's head back and forth during a FaceTime call. These accounts raised alarm about the potential risks posed by Carrie's handling of the infant.

Watts' mother also shared her disapproval of the situation, warning that Watts should not leave her baby solely in Carrie's care. Witnesses from the neighborhood reported seeing Carrie's risky behavior firsthand, including throwing the baby into the air and catching him, actions that could easily result in injury. On the morning of June 13, Watts and Carrie alerted Watts' grandfather about the child's condition before calling emergency services. Later that day, both were arrested at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Initially, Watts described her relationship with Carrie as 'good' and mentioned that he was 'attentive' during her pregnancy. However, subsequent police interviews revealed a darker side of Carrie's conduct, including allegations of punching and hitting Watts during pregnancy, as well as calling her and the baby derogatory names. Watts expressed her fears about Carrie's aggressive tendencies and admitted feeling coerced to stay in the relationship, worried that he might take the baby away if she attempted to leave. The case remains ongoing, with the judge and jury carefully examining all evidence to determine the full extent of Carrie's actions and the circumstances surrounding the injuries inflicted on the infant.
