KENT MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL WIFE STABBING
A man received a 15-year prison sentence after being convicted of the manslaughter of his wife, whom he stabbed with a kitchen knife in what was described as a brutal and callous killing.Jonathon Cudworth, aged 36 and from Northbourne near Deal in Kent, was found guilty of manslaughter at Canterbury Crown Court, having been acquitted of murder.
During the court proceedings, jurors learned that Cudworth’s motive was his fear of losing his Polish-born wife Mariola, known as Mijka, to another man.
The judge, Adele Williams, characterized the murder as particularly brutal and callous.
In his testimony, Cudworth said that following an argument after his wife returned late from work, he grabbed her by the neck to prevent her from pushing him, then picked up a knife and stabbed her.
He claimed the disagreement was triggered by her allegation that she was having an affair and intended to leave him.
After the killing, he concealed her body in a field in Eastry and later reported her missing.
Her remains were discovered on 12 May, with police finding bloodstains containing her DNA at his residence and in his family car.
Cudworth was charged on 7 May but only disclosed her location four days later.
A post-mortem concluded she died from blood loss caused by four stab wounds inflicted on 29 April.
Her family expressed profound sorrow, calling her death brutal and violent, but also found comfort in their faith that she was now with God and free from suffering.
Evidence included police footage showing Cudworth purchasing cleaning supplies, disposing of items at a tip, and dumping her bag and phone into the sea at Deal pier.
Detective Inspector Richard Vickery condemned the act as a senseless assault on an innocent woman, highlighting the emotional toll on the families involved during the investigation.
