KIRKWALL MAN CAUGHT GROOMING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN ONLINE STING
A young Orcadian man named Jonathan Moody was brought before Kirkwall Sheriff Court after attempting to groom an individual he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.Moody engaged in online chats during which he sent explicit images and discussed meeting for sexual activities.
During the conversations, he expressed intentions to travel from Orkney to meet the decoy, who was actually a member of an online paedophile hunter group posing as a minor.
Moody made suggestions about going swimming, staying in a hotel with a double bed, and consuming alcohol together.
He also asked if the decoy liked sexting and sent an image of his genitals, as well as inquiring about her touching herself.
Following the decoy's report to police, Moody was traced and his electronic devices seized from his home.
He was charged and admitted to sending communications of a sexual nature and an indecent image between October and December 2020, but denied ever using the dating site or WhatsApp.
He stated he had not sent the explicit image but acknowledged taking it in the bathtub.
Moody pleaded guilty to the charges and was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register, but his sentence was deferred until April 27 for a social work report.
