JONATHAN LEONARD AND ANN BRAY SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN CALDICOT AND NEWPORT

A disturbing case of child abuse has culminated in the conviction and sentencing of two individuals, Jonathan Leonard and Ann Bray, following a series of heinous crimes uncovered through digital evidence. Leonard, aged 58 and a resident of Caldicot in Monmouthshire, along with Bray, aged 62 from Newport, were taken into custody by the National Crime Agency in September 2024. Their arrest was prompted by intelligence received from the FBI, which led authorities to uncover a disturbing trail of digital material implicating the pair in ongoing child abuse.

During the operation, law enforcement officials seized electronic devices belonging to Ann Bray. These devices contained a collection of videos and images that vividly depicted the abuse of a young girl spanning from 2021 to 2024. Investigators found that Bray had been actively grooming the child, manipulating her into participating in sexual activities with both herself and Leonard. The evidence revealed a disturbing pattern of exploitation, with Bray sharing these illicit videos and images with Leonard through various messaging platforms. Chat logs recovered from their devices detailed their twisted fantasies, plans for future offenses, and the extent of their involvement in the abuse.

Further examination uncovered that Leonard had later disseminated some of these images publicly online, spreading the material to a wider audience. Bray was also found to possess additional indecent images of children, along with extreme pornography, indicating her deep involvement in the distribution of illegal content. The devices recovered from the pair provided extensive evidence of their criminal activities, illustrating a pattern of ongoing abuse and exploitation.

Throughout police interviews, both Leonard and Bray refused to cooperate or answer questions, choosing silence over engagement. Despite their silence, the evidence against them was overwhelming. They ultimately pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to child abuse during their appearance at Cardiff Crown Court. The court sentenced them to 23 years in prison, with an additional eight years on license to be served immediately upon release. The severity of their sentences reflects the gravity of their crimes and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation.

Senior Investigating Officer Daniel Waywell commented on the case, stating, 'Leonard and Bray worked together to support one another's sexual interest in children, subjecting a child to years of horrific abuse, which they filmed and shared online with other paedophiles.' He emphasized that every viewing and sharing of the abusive material re-victimizes the child and all victims involved.
