EX-ARMY MAJOR TO BE SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT ATTEMPTED MURDER IN NORFOLK
An ex-army officer, Jonathan Creak, who served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), is set to be sentenced later this month for attempted murder. The incident involved Creak driving over 100 miles to Norfolk to confront and attack his former wife, Rhiannon Creak.
He repeatedly slashed her with a knife on a quiet lane near the village of Hardwick, as she was tending to her friend's horses.
During the attack, he told her she "needed to die" and inflicted serious injuries that required emergency surgery and a blood transfusion.
The jury convicted him of attempted murder after nearly five hours of deliberation.
Creak had previously admitted to inflicting grievous bodily harm and possessing an article with a blade.
The judge, Katharine Moore, postponed the sentencing for a pre-sentence report and indicated he would likely face custody due to concerns about his dangerousness.
Creak had initially fled back to Oxfordshire but was later arrested after calling his partner and admitting he had "killed Rhiannon." The attack occurred in July last year, and Creak was found guilty in April.
The couple was married for about a decade before separating in 2018, each having started new relationships by the time of the assault.
The trial revealed Creak felt his wife had treated him with contempt over their split and financial issues.
The court heard he planned and executed the attack from Woodstock in Oxfordshire, following her to the Norfolk lane and attacking her repeatedly.
The court also saw images of the scene and heard that Creak, who visited Norfolk after the attack, was involved in a serious assault that left his ex-wife needing surgical intervention.
