MAN JAILED FOR PUNCHING AND STRANGLING HIS PARTNER
A man responsible for physically assaulting his partner and making threatening remarks to “cut her up” has received a prison sentence exceeding three years.Jonathan Collins, aged 44 and residing at Whitton Court in Swavesey, was involved in an assault on the victim on November 1 of the previous year, while they were both in bed preparing to sleep.
The incident began with verbal abuse from Collins, followed by him placing his hands around her neck, which left her struggling to breathe.
The following day, after the victim went shopping, she returned to find Collins appearing agitated.
Notably, he was standing beside the patio doors with a knife in hand, stating, “you are lucky I don’t cut you up.” When she inquired about his comment, he threatened her further, saying, “Do you want trouble?
Because if you do I will give you trouble.” He then seized her, again placing his hands around her neck to restrict her breathing, and proceeded to punch her twice in the face.
Authorities also revealed that Collins had a prior incident months earlier in which he stabbed the victim in the arm, though it was not reported to police at the time.
At Peterborough Crown Court on March 17, Collins pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) without intent, along with two counts of actual bodily harm (ABH).
He was sentenced to a total of three years and ten months in custody, and was subject to an indefinite restraining order.
Detective Constable Andrea Farnes, who led the investigation, commented: “Collins’s behaviour was violent, dangerous and completely unprovoked, causing serious distress and upset to the victim.
“I am glad justice has been done and that Collins is behind bars where he belongs.
“Domestic abuse is a priority area for the force and I would strongly urge anyone who is a victim to contact police.”
