JONATHAN ASSAR FROM HATFIELD PEVEREL AVOIDS JAIL AFTER CHILD PORN OFFENCES IN CHELMSFORD

In January 2010, a man identified as Jonathan Assar, 27, from Wickham Bishops Road, Hatfield Peverel, was brought before Chelmsford Crown Court on child pornography charges following a tip-off from Brazilian police.

The investigation revealed that Assar had been using a shared online network for two years, starting in 2007, during which he stored illicit material on his home computer. The court was informed that his computer contained 700 indecent images of children, including 694 photographs and 26 videos.

Assar pleaded guilty to 20 child porn offences during the proceedings.

Judge Anthony Goldstaub QC commented on the case, stating, “The low level of seriousness of most of the items enabled him to avoid a prison sentence. It was the Brazilian police who discovered your involvement in this filth, informed colleagues in Essex and they raided your premises. A meticulous investigation was carried out. If it wasn’t for people downloading images, there wouldn’t be people making them.”

As a result, Assar was sentenced to a three-year community order, with the condition that he attend a sex offenders' programme and pay £180 in court costs. Additionally, he was ordered to be on the sex offenders register for five years.

Emma Nash, acting as his solicitor, stated, “He’s got genuine remorse and shame. He felt wretched looking at them. He didn’t get any sexual gratification – he doesn’t know why he didn’t delete them.”
