JOHNATHON KAYE FROM KINGSTEIGNTON SENTENCED FOR ABUSING GIRL IN NEWTON ABBOT
In a case that has shocked the local community, Johnathon Kaye, a 28-year-old man residing on Priscott Way in Kingsteignton, was sentenced to serve 29 months in prison for a series of serious sexual offences committed against a young girl from Newton Abbot. The incident came to light after the girl confided in an adult about Kaye's inappropriate and 'naughty' behaviour, prompting a police investigation that uncovered disturbing evidence of abuse.During the proceedings at Exeter Crown Court, it was revealed that Kaye, who has known learning difficulties, had admitted to four counts of sexual offences against the child, as well as two charges related to the possession of indecent photographs of her. His defence team argued that his learning difficulties should be taken into consideration and that he should be spared from incarceration. However, Judge Stephen Wildblood QC acknowledged these factors but emphasized that imprisonment was the only suitable course of action given the severity of the offences.
Prosecutor David Evans detailed that Kaye had engaged in abusive behaviour on multiple occasions over several years, causing significant harm to the young girl. The investigation was initiated after the girl disclosed the abuse to an adult, who then contacted the NSPCC, leading to police involvement. Kaye initially pleaded guilty in August to the charges related to the indecent photographs but denied the sexual offences. He later changed his plea to guilty in November, acknowledging his guilt.
As part of his sentence, Kaye was also placed under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which will remain in effect until further notice, and was registered on the Sex Offender Register for a period of ten years. The case highlights ongoing concerns about safeguarding children and the importance of prompt reporting and investigation of abuse allegations in the community.
