In July 2017, a man from Chesterfield was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of historical child sex offences. John Wass, aged 69 and residing in Emmet Field Close, was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on July 12 following a trial that lasted three weeks. He was found guilty of 17 charges involving three different victims. The charges included rape, sexual assault, and sexual exposure, with offences dating back to the 1960s.
