LAVENHAM MAN JOHN THURSTON CONVICTED FOR CONTROLLING BEHAVIOUR AND ASSAULT
A controlling Suffolk man accused of “making a woman’s life hell” has been warned he could be jailed when he is sentenced in October.Twenty-five-year-old John Thurston allegedly body shamed the woman, repeatedly called her on her phone, isolated her from her friends and family, repeatedly assaulted her, repeatedly drove past her house and turned up at her home unannounced, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
Mark Tomassi, prosecuting, claimed Thurston had been in a volatile relationship with the woman and had “made her life hell”.
Thurston of Shilling Street, Lavenham, denied using controlling or coercive behaviour, intentional strangulation and two offences of assault by beating.
He was convicted of using controlling or coercive behaviour and one offence of assault by beating and cleared of intentional strangulation and one offence of assault by beating.
Recorder Richard Christie adjourned sentence until October 31 for a pre-sentence report and warned Thurston, who is on conditional bail, that he could be facing an immediate prison sentence.
The court heard that Thurston had denied the offences when he was interviewed by police.
