BASILDON CROWN COURT: MAN WHO ATTACKED WIFE SENTENCED
A south Essex man beat his wife so savagely that she suffered a collapsed lung.
John Stokes, 31, was filmed dragging his wife around a public corridor by her hair and kicking her repeatedly.
The attack started inside their flat and spilled into the corridor as she tried to escape.
She sustained injuries including one swollen eye, bruising, a bleeding nose, bite marks on her arms, and a partially collapsed lung.
Stokes, under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and was sentenced to 30 months after a plea bargain.
He will serve up to half in prison, minus nearly six months already spent on remand.
The judge described the act as "uncontrolled savagery" and "sickening." His wife withdrew support for the prosecution and declined a restraining order.
