ELDERLY MAN FROM SURREY ON SEX OFFENDERS' REGISTER FOR UPSKIRTING
A pensioner has been placed on the sex offenders' register after he took photos up a woman's dress while on a train.John Richardson, aged 72, from Shepperton in Surrey, was traveling to London Waterloo when he committed this act, as the Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.
The victim, who after noticing Richardson using his mobile phone near her knees, saw the camera flash and observed that he was zooming in and out of her lower body.
He took three to four pictures of her legs, with her underwear faintly visible, which left her feeling very uncomfortable, confused, and vulnerable.
Richardson had engaged her in conversation at first, but then ate the photographs he secretly took.
He later approached the woman at the station, attempted to apologize, and said, 'I'm sorry, but I thought you were really attractive.' When police spoke to him, he expressed regret and embarrassment.
Richardson was given a 12-month community order and will be registered as a sex offender for five years.
The court judge described his actions as 'covert, intrusive, and degrading,' emphasizing the incident's degrading and demeaning nature for the victim.
