Penicuik Domestic Abuser
Penicuik Man Sentenced for 11-Year Campaign of Domestic Abuse

A Penicuik man has been sentenced for a series of serious domestic assaults that took place over an 11-year period in Midlothian and the Scottish Borders.

John McAdam, 53, was convicted at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, March 11, after pleading guilty to multiple charges of physical and emotional abuse. He was sentenced at the same court today (Monday, April 8).

The offences, which occurred between 2006 and 2017, came to light after the victim bravely reported the abuse to police in April 2017. An investigation was launched by the Lothians and Scottish Borders Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, leading to McAdam’s arrest and charge in November 2017.

Detective Inspector Keith MacKay of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit said:

“McAdam subjected the victim to both physical and emotional abuse over an 11-year period. Thanks to the bravery of the victim in reporting these crimes, McAdam will now serve a custodial sentence and will no longer be a risk to other women.

We are committed to supporting victims of domestic abuse and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable. We would encourage anyone affected by domestic abuse to come forward – support and justice are available.”

Police Scotland continues to work closely with partners to support victims and pursue those responsible for domestic abuse. Help is available for anyone experiencing abuse through a range of local and national services.
