JOHN LANE FROM GUILSFIELD SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR ABUSE IN MID WALES
In March 2004, a pensioner from Mid Wales received a 12-year prison sentence after a lengthy history of abusing young girls spanning over thirty years.John Arthur Lane, aged 69 and residing at Pendinas, Coed-y-Glyn, Guilsfield near Welshpool, pleaded guilty to 16 charges including indecent assault and unlawful sexual intercourse involving five victims.
The court heard that Lane had indecently touched a 12-year-old girl who later confided in her mother. Following this report, police launched an investigation which uncovered the full extent of Lane's offending over the years, as disclosed during the hearing at Mold Crown Court.
Judge Huw Daniel described the case as among the worst he had encountered and sentenced Lane accordingly. He ordered that Lane be placed on the sex offenders' register for life and imposed an order banning him from having contact with children. Additionally, a special restraining order was issued to prevent Lane from ever making contact with any of his victims.
During the proceedings, Lane stated that he began abusing girls in his early 30s and emphasized that he had not been violent towards any of his victims.
