MAN CONVICTED FOR ASSAULTING ESTRANGED WIFE AND MAKING ABUSIVE COMMENTS
A man named John Kirrane was involved in an incident where he shoved his estranged wife and made offensive comments. The court heard that Kirrane, aged 54, assaulted his wife while she was in the bath, barged into her in a state of anger, and demanded money.
He caused her to feel unsafe, especially since she had a piece of wood made to prevent him from entering her bedroom.
The situation escalated when he returned to their Home at Longley Road after a funeral, being aggressive, swearing, and calling her derogatory names such as 'you're so f*****g ugly'.
During the altercation, he pushed her into the living room, leading her to fall against the couch.
She attempted to call for help but was pushed again by Kirrane, who told her she 'deserved that, you fat bitch'.
The court proceedings resulted in Kirrane pleading guilty to assault by beating.
The judge sentenced him to a 12-month conditional discharge, which means no punishment if he remains trouble-free during this period.
Kirrane was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £30 victim surcharge, with the judge expressing understanding of his circumstances, citing 'sadness in your soul that bubbled over'.
The incident took place while the couple was undergoing divorce proceedings but still living together, with ongoing arguments leading to volatile situations.
Kirrane has since moved out and is living with his sister.
