JOHN EYRE FROM GOUDHURST SENTENCED TO OVER 13 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE IN KENT
In a case that has shocked the local community of Goudhurst and the wider Kent area, John Eyre, a pensioner from North Road in Goudhurst, has been sentenced to more than thirteen years in prison after being found guilty of heinous sexual offences involving a young child. The allegations against Eyre, who is 73 years old, first came to light when reports of abuse were made to Kent Police last year. These reports prompted a thorough investigation, culminating in his arrest on February 27, 2017. Eyre was subsequently taken into custody and charged with multiple serious offences.
At his court appearance before Maidstone Crown Court, Eyre entered a plea of not guilty to charges including rape, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and a further count of sexual assault of a child. Despite his denial, the case proceeded to trial, where the evidence presented led a jury to reach a unanimous verdict of guilt.
Following the conviction, the court handed down a substantial sentence of 13 and a half years in prison. In addition to his incarceration, Eyre was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, a measure designed to monitor his activities and prevent further harm. Furthermore, a court order was issued barring him from working with children, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the potential risk he poses to the community.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities in Kent to protect vulnerable individuals and hold offenders accountable for their actions. The community of Goudhurst and surrounding areas are urged to remain vigilant and report any concerns related to child safety to the authorities.
