JOHN EVANS FROM WALLASEY CAUGHT WITH ILLEGAL EXTREME PORN IN POLICE RAID

In January 2011, law enforcement officers conducted a significant raid on a residence located in Wallasey, specifically on Clarendon Road, uncovering a disturbing collection of illegal extreme pornography. The police action was prompted by allegations involving a young girl, which led to the arrest of 27-year-old John Evans.

During the investigation, authorities seized three computers from Evans' home. Subsequent analysis of the devices revealed a substantial assortment of explicit videos, among which one contained material deemed illegal under current laws. The discovery raised serious concerns about the nature of the content stored on his computers and the potential for ongoing abuse.

When questioned by investigators, Evans claimed that he did not believe the films, which he had downloaded in April and May of 2009, were illegal. However, this assertion was challenged by the prosecution, represented by Teresa Loftus, who explained that Evans would have been correct in his belief if not for a new law introduced in January 2009 that clarified and expanded the definition of illegal pornography. This legislative change made certain types of extreme content explicitly unlawful, and Evans' possession of such material was thus a criminal offense.

Further details emerged during the court proceedings. Evans denied any involvement in molesting the young girl, who was only six years old. Nevertheless, he later pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting her, admitting that the incident occurred on either February 12 or 13 of the previous year. The plea was based on the understanding that the assault was a single event. In addition to the sexual assault charge, Evans also admitted to possessing extreme pornography, which is illegal under the law.

Judge Nigel Gilmour QC sentenced Evans to 20 months in prison. In his remarks, the judge expressed concern about the impact of the abuse, stating, “I have no doubt that although the child did not suffer physical injury, the child did suffer some mental disturbance for a period of some months.” He emphasized that abuse of this nature inevitably causes psychological harm, and the process of questioning by police and social services can prolong the child's distress.

Judge Gilmour also highlighted a victim impact statement, which revealed that the girl’s mother had suffered immensely upon learning of the assault. As part of his sentence, Evans was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was subjected to a Sexual Offenders’ Prevention Order, also valid for ten years.

During the hearing, Paul Wood, representing Evans, stated that his client was “deeply ashamed and remorseful” and acknowledged that his actions could damage the girl’s trust in men permanently. The case underscores the serious legal consequences of possessing illegal pornography and committing sexual offenses, especially involving minors, in the Wirral area and beyond.
