In a disturbing case that unfolded in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, a 32-year-old man named John Ellis was sentenced to two years in prison after a violent assault that left a 10-week-old baby boy and a woman injured. The incident, which took place in March of this year, involved a series of brutal acts committed by Ellis within his own home, shocking the local community and prompting a serious legal response.

According to court proceedings, Ellis, who works as a door-to-door salesman, had consumed two bottles of wine before retiring to his bedroom. The night took a dark turn when the woman, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, attempted to join him in bed. Despite her efforts to get into the bed, Ellis was found to be asleep in a position that prevented her from doing so. She made several attempts to wake him and move him, but he remained unresponsive. At one point, Ellis suddenly sat upright and punched her once in the left eye, prompting her to leave the room in fear.

Concerned for her safety and the safety of the sleeping infant, the woman returned to the bedroom with her phone recording in hand, fearing that Ellis might lash out again. During this tense encounter, a heated argument erupted, escalating rapidly. Court evidence revealed that Ellis began to punch the woman repeatedly on her head. The situation worsened when Ellis, in a fit of rage, picked up the Moses basket containing the 10-week-old baby and forcefully threw it across the room. The basket landed on the bed, but the force of the throw caused the baby to fall onto the floor, resulting in visible bruising on the child's head.

As the woman desperately tried to tend to the injured baby, Ellis continued his assault, punching her again. During this violent episode, she fell on top of the baby, further endangering the child's safety. The court heard a recording of the incident, where the woman can be heard repeatedly pleading for Ellis to stop hitting her, her voice rising in hysteria as the baby was thrown across the room. The audio also captured her distress as she tried to protect her child amid the chaos.

When police arrived at the scene, Ellis was still unrepentant. In his police interview, he questioned the severity of his actions, asking,
