JOHN EDWARD HUTCHESON BRUTALIZES WOMAN IN LERWICK SHELTERING FROM ABERDEEN AND SHETLAND CRIME
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Lerwick, Shetland, a man named John Edward Hutcheson, aged 30, was involved in a violent assault against a woman, which has now resulted in a prison sentence.The events took place on the night of April 9th, when Hutcheson, who was on bail at the time, appeared unexpectedly at the victim’s residence around 11 pm.
According to reports, the woman, who was at her home in Lerwick, allowed Hutcheson into her living room out of a sense of obligation or perhaps confusion.
However, what began as a seemingly benign visit quickly escalated into a frightening ordeal.
Hutcheson became visibly irate, shouting loudly and displaying aggressive behavior.
His anger manifested in him repeatedly spitting at the woman’s face and hair, an act that added to the trauma she was experiencing.
As she attempted to leave the premises, Hutcheson’s violence intensified.
He threw a coffee table at her, an act of physical aggression that forced her to sit back down on her sofa in fear.
Despite her efforts to escape, Hutcheson held her shoulders firmly, preventing her from getting up and leaving the scene.
The assault then turned even more brutal as he punched and kicked her repeatedly on her head and body, inflicting physical harm and emotional distress.
Hutcheson was later brought before Lerwick Sheriff Court, where he appeared via video-link from Grampian Prison.
During the hearing, he admitted to carrying out the unprovoked attack, acknowledging his actions.
Sheriff Cruickshank, presiding over the case, expressed his strong disapproval of Hutcheson’s conduct.
He stated, “I’ve considered matters and given careful consideration to the Crown narration, and also what’s been presented in mitigation.
This was a particularly nasty and unprovoked assault.” The sheriff also noted that Hutcheson’s sentence would be backdated to April 12th, the day he was initially taken into custody.
The court sentenced him to 15 months in prison, with three months of that sentence attributable to the fact that Hutcheson was on bail at the time of the assault.
This case highlights the severity of unprovoked violence and the justice system’s response to such heinous acts in the Shetland region, particularly in Lerwick and Aberdeen, where Hutcheson’s criminal activities have now been formally addressed.
