JOHN DIXON FROM MOORHOUSE SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF BOY IN CUMBRIA
In a case that has shocked the local community, John Dixon, a 54-year-old man residing at Kirksteads Farm in Moorhouse, near Carlisle, has been handed a decade-long prison sentence for his involvement in the sexual abuse of a young boy. The sentencing took place at Carlisle Crown Court, where Dixon was found guilty of multiple serious charges stemming from offenses committed during the 1990s.Specifically, Dixon was convicted on six counts, which included three charges of indecent assault, two counts of engaging in indecency with a child, and one additional sexual offense. The court heard that Dixon's abuse of the boy spanned over five years, during which he subjected the young victim to persistent and repeated sexual misconduct. The severity of the case was underscored by the fact that Dixon admitted to three further sexual offenses against the same boy, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior.
Throughout the proceedings, Dixon, who is a father of two daughters, chose to represent himself in court after dismissing two separate legal teams. His decision to sack his initial barrister after just five days of the first trial led to a second trial being scheduled last month. The second barrister, citing 'certain difficulties,' withdrew from the case, which further complicated the legal process.
During the sentencing, Judge Paul Batty addressed Dixon directly, stating, “It is perfectly plain to me that you groomed this boy and started abusing him from the age of 12, continuing persistently until he was nearly 18. It occurred virtually at every opportunity you had the chance to abuse him.” The judge’s remarks emphasized the calculated and ongoing nature of the abuse, which took place over several years and at various times, exploiting the victim’s trust and vulnerability.
The court's decision to impose a 10-year prison term reflects the gravity of Dixon’s actions and the impact on the young victim. Additionally, Dixon was ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, a measure designed to monitor and prevent any further offenses. The case has left a lasting scar on the community of Moorhouse and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and justice in protecting vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
