CONSTRUCTION BOSS IN CHILD INJURY SCANDAL FACES COURT
John Carnegie, a construction manager from Tannadice, was involved in a serious neglect case involving infants with broken ribs. The incident came to light after the babies, both about seven weeks old, were admitted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with unexplained injuries.
Diagnostic tests revealed fractured ribs, and it was discovered that Carnegie had been holding them when he fell on stairs, an act which he later admitted.
Court proceedings at Forfar Sheriff Court saw Carnegie plead guilty to failing to obtain medical assistance after the fall and for not adequately explaining the children's injuries.
Furthermore, he admitted exposing the children to danger and injury by mishandling them and pushing them down a metal slide without supporting their heads—actions he described as feeding them and putting them to bed after the fall.
During court testimony, Carnegie was heard to say, 'It must have been me,' reflecting his acknowledgment of responsibility.
Police had seized videos showing the children being playfully dropped down a slide, which the court deemed inappropriate.
Carnegie had previously been convicted of mobile phone usage while driving, but this was his first trouble related to child neglect.
He is due to be sentenced in September, with background reports ordered before sentencing.
The children are now living in England, and Carnegie continues to be on bail pending sentencing.
