LEEDS BUSINESSMAN JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS FOR KILLING EX-PARTNER
A man who murdered his estranged partner by stabbing her and then reportedly went home, opened a beer, and smoked a cigar has received a seven-year prison sentence.John Butler, a 62-year-old businessman, was found not guilty of her murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter during his trial at Leeds Crown Court and was then sentenced.
The court was told the incident was started when Pauline Butler, 61, stated she would prevent him from seeing their granddaughter.
The couple had been together for four decades before ending their relationship, with Ms Butler even changing her surname despite never officially marrying Butler.
It was revealed that on April 14, Butler visited her flat and carried out a prolonged stabbing attack.
Prosecutors explained that afterward, he returned home, consumed a beer, and smoked a cigar.
The judge pointed out that Ms Butler had been disrespectful and had brandished a knife at him three times as their relationship worsened, but Butler’s actions were a reaction to these tensions, resulting in her immediate death.
His conviction was for manslaughter, and he was sentenced to seven years in prison.
