TEACHING ASSISTANT JILL MELDRUM-JONES JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST PUPIL
A teaching assistant who engaged in sexual acts with a 15-year-old student has been sentenced to 32 months in prison.Jill Meldrum-Jones, aged 37, committed multiple offenses against the boy during a flight and a school trip.
The allegations surfaced after rumors about her emerged, Coventry Crown Court was told.
Meldrum-Jones, from Kineton in Warwickshire, pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual activity with a minor and inciting sexual activity.
Prosecutor Stefan Kolodynski stated that Meldrum-Jones sent text messages to the boy that explicitly referenced their encounters and contained discussions aimed at arranging further sexual activity.
In sentencing her, Judge Philip Gregory remarked that it was almost inconceivable that someone from her background—a happily married woman with two children and intelligence—could lose her sense of judgment and self-control.
He noted that the behavior was "grotesquely out of character" for her.
During mitigation, solicitor Simon Hunka described her actions as "unbelievably risky" and suggested they might have been influenced by depression or her mental health condition.
