JEREMY WRIGHT OF BOVINGTON CONVICTED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN DORSET
In January 2018, Jeremy Wright, a 68-year-old resident of Andover Green in Bovington, found himself at the center of a disturbing criminal case involving child sex offences. Despite the severity of his actions, Wright narrowly avoided imprisonment, receiving instead a community order from the court.Wright was found to have downloaded over a thousand indecent images of children, a crime that underscores the extent of his illicit activities. Among these images, 69 were classified as the most serious category, indicating the highest level of depravity. An additional 98 images fell into category B, with the remaining 912 images categorized as C, reflecting a broad spectrum of illegal material.
The case drew further attention due to Wright’s family history. His son, William Wright, had previously been sentenced to two years in prison for filming himself engaging in sexual activity with a 16-year-old girl. Additionally, Jeremy Wright’s father, Alex Wright, served a two-year sentence for child abuse, highlighting a troubling pattern within the family.
During the court proceedings at Bournemouth Crown Court, Wright’s defense team highlighted the familial background, with his barrister stating, “The sins of the father are playing out in this defendant.” The court was also told that Wright, who is the director of a sales and marketing company, attempted to conceal his illegal activities by discarding a USB stick containing child abuse images out of a bedroom window during a police raid on October 11, 2016, at his Dorset mansion.
Further investigations revealed that Wright possessed not only images of child exploitation but also extreme animal pornography and 490 cartoons depicting children involved in sexual acts. The court heard that Wright’s actions were influenced by a family history of abuse, with Wright himself reporting to police that his father had groomed an underage individual, a revelation that added a complex layer to the case.
In a letter addressed to the judge, Jeremy Wright expressed remorse, stating, “I am guilty as charged, nothing can excuse my behaviour. I take full responsibility for my actions, not a day passes when I do not regret my actions more and more.”
Judge Brian Forster ultimately sentenced Wright to a three-year community order, which includes a requirement to attend 35 days of a sex offenders’ programme. The sentence reflects the court’s recognition of the seriousness of Wright’s offences, while also emphasizing rehabilitation over incarceration in this case.
