HULL MAN JAILED FOR ABUSE AND ASSAULT ON GIRLFRIEND
A man from Yorkshire, known for violent behavior, physically assaulted his girlfriend after accusing her of cheating. The woman believed she was close to dying when Jeffrey Melchior dragged her by her hair, pulling out clumps and forcing her into a state of terror in her own home.
During the assault, she feared she was choking and worried she might lose consciousness.
Melchior threatened to “smash her head in,” and she feared she might become another in a line of victims, Hull Live reports.
The 38-year-old admitted to causing actual bodily harm (ABH), assaulting a police officer, harassment, and possessing a knife.
The couple’s relationship had been unstable over a period of about three years.
On April 26, 2022, Melchior broke into her house, kissed her forcefully on the lips, then grabbed her face, pulling her back and choking her.
He pushed her into a kitchen door amid accusations of infidelity.
He then ripped hair from her scalp by force and straddled her to keep her from fleeing.
While attacking her, she felt as if she was choking and managed to get to a bedroom to press a panic button.
Melchior tracked her down, and after a brief moment of calm, resumed the assault by shoving her head into cushions, wrapping his arms around her throat, and pulling her hair as she fought to breathe.
She was dragged to the floor, kicked, and strangled, with Melchior striking her multiple times and instilling a fear of death.
When authorities arrived, she could be heard pleading for help.
Melchior, who had no previous convictions and worked on Hull’s docks, was taken into custody.
He was remanded for 20 months.
Following his release, he breached bail conditions by sending threatening messages and making abusive remarks, including “What goes around comes around.” He re-entered her home under the influence of alcohol, shouting accusations and carrying a kitchen knife.
Sentencing him to 20 months in prison, the court addressed his violent actions and breach of bail.
