JEFFREY CARR: CHILD PORN PERVERT FROM BERE REGIS AND DEWLISH SENTENCED IN DORCHESTER
In November 2002, Jeffrey Carr, a man aged 64, was sentenced to 15 months in prison after a thorough police investigation uncovered a disturbing collection of child pornography on his computer. Carr, who previously operated a naturist bed and breakfast near Dorchester, had since relocated to a farm in Bere Regis. The court proceedings revealed that Carr had admitted to 27 charges of creating indecent photographs of children as young as two years old.The police found an alarming cache of approximately 14,000 images stored across various media, including CDs, floppy disks, and his computer’s hard drive. These images were described at Dorchester Crown Court as depicting young children being coerced into sexual acts with adults, a revelation that shocked the courtroom and underscored the severity of Carr’s offenses.
It was also disclosed that Carr had a prior conviction from 1987, when he was sentenced to two years in prison for gross indecency involving two children aged five and six. This history of offending added a grave context to the current case.
Prosecutor Philip Warren detailed that between 1998 and December 2001, Carr had downloaded approximately 60,000 pornographic images from the internet. Of these, around 14,000 were identified as involving children, and they were meticulously organized on disks labeled with categories such as 'Junior 8-11,' 'Boys Mainly,' and 'Mixed Girls and Juniors.'
During the investigation, authorities recovered more than 100 floppy disks and 65 CDs, nine of which contained explicit images of children. Additionally, there were 35 moving images, further illustrating the extent of Carr’s collection.
Carr, who described himself as a naturist and claimed to run a naturist bed and breakfast, admitted to having a significant interest in pornography, including images from child pornography websites. When questioned about his motives for viewing such material, Carr reportedly told police, “I think they are beautiful.”
His defense lawyer, Richard Onslow, argued that there was no evidence to suggest Carr had downloaded the images with the intent to distribute them, focusing instead on the possession aspect.
Judge Roger Jarvis sentenced Carr to 15 months in prison, citing the high risk of re-offending. The judge ordered that Carr serve half of his sentence behind bars and imposed a four-year license period, requiring him to report regularly to a designated officer. Carr’s name will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for a decade.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Jarvis expressed his disgust at the images, describing them as “depraved and disgusting.” He emphasized the devastating impact on the children involved, stating, “Children’s lives are ruined in making these images. Their innocence is lost forever.”
